The Backus Farms Story
Our Family
Today Backus Farms is run by father-and-son team, Mike and Derek Backus. Our family has been farming in Linwood, Michigan for 4 generations, and we’re proud to be growing the business Derek’s great-grandfather, George Backus, Sr., built in 1947. We work hard to offer the highest-quality, naturally raised beef in Michigan, and take pride in the care of our cattle. Our family is living proof that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. We’re passionate about working together to run the farm and serve the surrounding community.
Our Farm
Our farm sits on 60 acres nestled in Bay County, with 3 big red barns dotted across the fields. We raise beef cattle and grow corn, soybeans, and hay. We believe the way we treat our land and animals comes through in the quality of our products, so we’re always working to improve our practices and optimizing nutrition to keep our cows happy and healthy.
We sell our beef in a variety of unique cuts, with over 20 different steaks and roasts to choose from. You can purchase Backus Farms beef in our online farm store for pickup at our farm or the Freeland Feed Store.
Our Future
We’re looking forward to opening our USDA-certified meat processing facility in order to offer even more varieties and cuts of meat.
Look out for more from Backus Farms this fall!
